Justice Kudirat M.O. Kekere-Ekun has been confirmed as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Nigerian Senate made the confirmation on Wednesday after considering the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters on the screening of the justice.

Before her unanimous confirmation, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (Oyo South) described Kekere-Ekun as a hard working and articulate legal luminary whose erudite judgments have always been a source of joy to Nigerians.

He recalled that he previously appeared before Justice Kekere-Ekun who started as a private legal practitioner. He also recalled Justice Kekere-Ekun gave satisfactory answers to questions on how she would improve the Judiciary through the use of Information and Communication technology (ICT).

“There is no doubt that the appointment of Kekere-Ekun as a Justice of the Supreme Court would be a huge plus to the apex court and the country,” the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lawmaker said.

Also speaking, Senator Ita Enang, (Akwa Ibom North East) observed that Justice Kekere-Ekun attained her position on individual merit, urging that the National Judicial Council to increase the number of Justices of the Supreme Court to ensure equity to all sections of the country. He also advised that it was important for all parts of the country to feel represented.
