The planned £3,000 UK visa bond is mainly to discourage travellers from overstaying in the United Kingdom and will not affect everyone, United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr Andre Pocock has said.

According to Pocock, the pilot scheme will affect just a small number of people considered in the UK to be high-risk visitors.

“The vast majority of Nigerians will not be required to pay the bond” he added. “Details of the bond’s pilot scheme are yet to emerge and when it does commence, the scheme will affect a tiny amount of Nigerians.”

Pocock similarly confirmed that the bond will not be applicable to student visa but rather, short-stay visitors to the UK. Although he conceded that students occasionally violate the limit of their stay, other measures will be used to curtail their own indiscretions
