Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal will not join the opposition, he has assured.

President Goodluck Jonathan had recently warned of the making of a new Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that would not hesitate to come hard on even high placed elected officials of the party should they be found wanting.

“In a situation where somebody is in a particular party but his faith is in another political party; for those who are not holding political offices, yes, you can excuse,” Jonathan had said.

“But if you are holding an elective office, you won’t be in that party and be working for another party. Otherwise, why are you there?”

But speaking with journalists in Benin, Edo State on claims that he is on his way out of the party, Tambuwal affirmed his membership of the ruling party and added that it would remain so for a long time to come.

“I’ m a member of the PDP,” he said. “I am a PDP man. I’m hearing that rumour from you.”

On other matters, he claimed that the disagreement between the National Assembly and the Executive over the 2013 Appropriation Act is solely in the interest of the country and its citizens.

“Well, you know it is all about consultation and we will keep talking to ourselves and ensure that Nigerians get the best out of it,” he said.

“But I assure you that what National Assembly is doing is to ensure that Nigerians get the best out of the situation. We are not there to undermine the interest of Nigerians; and we will be the last people to ever do that.”
