Gunmen Kidnap Father of Cross River Deputy Governor

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Etubom Essien Cobham, father of Deputy Governor of Cross Rivers State, Efiok Cobham.

Pa Cobham was abducted on Friday morning at about 1am in his house in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area of the state, by unidentified gunmen.

Similarly, an uncle of the deputy governor was kidnapped by the same gunmen; while the residence of Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Ita Ekpenyong in the same vicinity was vandalized.

According to eyewitnesses of the area, the gunmen first filled the air with sporadic gunshots that sent residents scampering for safety. They also said the assailants entered the area through the Calabar River with the help of two speedboats and a dog.

Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Police Command, Mr. Hogan Bassey confirmed the incident but declined to speak on ongoing efforts towards freeing the deputy governor’s relatives.
