Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, is dead.Though details of the incident were sketchy at the time of this report, sources say Tsokwa died few minutes ago after a brief illness.

The late speaker, a core loyalist of Deputy Governor of the state, Garba Umar, is believed to have been poisoned, as he had been hale and hearty and never complained of any health challenge.

The speaker had been facing several political challenges following his refusal to yield to pressure over the lingering crisis between the deputy governor, who is currently acting, and Governor Danbaba Suntai who was smuggled into the country from an overseas hospital where he was receiving treatment after his self-piloted plane crashed late last year.

He recently escaped assassination after his convoy was attacked. The assassins only succeeded in killing one of his security aides.
