Presidency Cancels FEC Meeting Again

For the second time in a month, the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) traditionally held on Wednesdays has been cancelled without an official explanation.

While President Goodluck Jonathan is in Anambra State attending last-minute campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state, Vice President Namadi Sambo is presently attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) meeting in Sri Lanka.

Two weeks ago, the FEC did not meet but President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Chief Anyim Pius Anyim led other top government functionaries to receive a 2013 African Peace Award on the same day.

No official explanation was offered for that cancelation, which could still have held in the absence of the president, provided the vice president was given the nod to preside over it.

It was a surprise that the president himself was unavailable to preside over the meeting, having returned to the country the previous night after a one-week trip to Israel.
