An accident involving the convoy of Governor of Borno State, Governor Kashim Shettima has resulted in the death of one person.

Governor Shettima was en route to the burial of late Emir of Shani, Alhaji Mohammed Mailafiya, who died last week in India after a lengthy illness, when one of the jeeps convoying him lost one of its tyres and crashed into a tree.

Driver of the brown jeep lost control few metres to the emir’s palace before ramming into the tree, opposite the under-renovation Shani General Hospital. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Biu Local Government. The late man, meanwhile, was identified as a close associate to the governor.

The former Emir was buried as expected at his palace in Shani council, in the presence of a number of high-profile personalities such as Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai El- Kanemi.
