Man, Daughter Die as Car Plunges into River

An early-morning tragedy in the Ajah area of Lagos State on Tuesday resulted in the death of a man identified as Mr. Sunday Megba and his daughter, Lola, while his wife, Sade, was seriously injured.

The car, an SUV with registration number Lagos DN 866 JJJ, in which they were returning from church plunged from the Ikota Bridge into the River in below it, killing the man's 11-year old daughter, according to rescue officials at the scene of the incident.

They were said to be returning from a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ when the incident occurred.

At the time of this report, rescue efforts had been completed, the car had been pulled out of the river, the bodies of the victims transferred to the morgue, while Sade had been rushed to the Peninsula Hospital close to the area.

Witnesses explained that before plunging into the river, the car somersaulted several times and the woman fell off in the process.

General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident, saying the corpses of the family members were recovered by Ilaje divers.
