Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Samuel Adesina is dead.

He died on Tuesday at the St Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, after a protracted but undisclosed illness. He was aged 56.

A member of the Labour Party (LP), the speaker, who represented Odigbo State Constituency 2, was said to have been sick for about six months.

The Araromi-Obu-born politician was first elected into the House of Assembly in 2003 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected in 2007, also as a member of the PDP. But he subsequently defected with nine other lawmakers to the Labour Party in April 2009, after which he became Speaker of the House.

He was again re-elected in 2011 on the platform of Labour Party, and was retained as Speaker of the House.
