Chief Inengite Nitabai, the abducted cousin of President Goodluck Jonathan has been freed, according Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Hilary Okpara.

The 70-year-old was kidnapped by gunmen numbering about 10, who broke into his house in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The armed men laid siege on the sprawling compound located just before Otuoke Bridge, off Otu-Okpoti-Ogbia Road at about 9pm, and without a single gunshot identified their target, who has been acting like President Jonathan’s father since the passing on of his biological father.

They subsequently demanded a ransom of N500m, which the family attempted to beat to N30m but was rejected for being too small.

“He was rescued from Odioma coastal settlement and as I speak with you I am with him in his house in Otuoke,” Okpara said while breaking news of his release.

“A total of six suspects, including a traditional ruler believed to be the father of a leader of the kidnap ring, have been arrested in connection with the abduction”.

However, the Police was mum on whether or not a ransom was paid.
