President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak of his duty.

The termination of appointment was announced on Tuesday by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, on his twitter page.

“President Jonathan has terminated the appointment of his Special Adviser (Political), Alhaji Ahmed A. Gulak with immediate effect,” Abati tweeted.

“President Jonathan thanks Alhaji Gulak for his services to the present administration and wishes him success in his future endeavors. A replacement for Alhaji Gulak will be announced in due course.”

The reason for the sack is yet to be anounced.

Gulak is the national coordinator of the Goodluck Support Group. He is famous in the media for uttering a lot of controversial statements in support of his boss the president.

In August 2013, he had directed a word of caution to five governors in the northern state, implying in his statement that they were deliberately fomenting trouble.

"I want to plead with the four or five governors from the north, who are trying to precipitate crisis to give peace a chance and spare the country avoidable trouble,” Gulak had said.

"They should realise that without peace none of them would be governors. They should subsume their interest. That is my plea to them".

He had also made a very controversial statement on 26th December 2013 during an interview on Voice of America Hausa, saying “fighting with Jonathan is like fighting God.”
