Abuja Blast: Police IG Orders Increased Security, Surveillance

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered increased security presence and surveillance in and around Federal Capital Territory metropolis following a bomb blast incident which occurred at about 4pm, Wednesday at the Shopping Complex along Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The Police revealed that it had commenced investigation into the incident and that, working with other security forces, it had condoned off the scene of the blast, while the Police Bomb Disposal Squad has commenced post-blast analysis as part of the general investigative process.

Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, said 21 persons have been confirmed dead while the 17 injured persons are receiving treatment at various hospitals including Maitama Hospital, Gwarimpa Hospital, Wuse Hospital, Garki Hospital and National hospital.

"The security forces are taking measured steps to strengthen all soft targets and critical infrastructure in a bid to improve overall public safety,” Mba said.

"The IGP calls on the members of the public to remain vigilant and to stay away from scenes of explosion so as not to fall victim in a likely case of secondary blast.”
