A bomb blast has killed 14 people in Bauchi State. The explosion occurred on Friday morning at a First Bank branch in Azare, the second largest town in the state.

According to witnesses, at least 28 other people sustained severe injuries in the blast.

Narrating the incident, eyewitnesses said the bomb was thrown out of an ash-coloured Volk Wagen Golf car which conveyed three men to a First Bank branch in Azare, Bauchi.

They said the men targeted the crowed that queued up waiting to use the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

“They threw the bomb at the crowd and drove away at top speed,” an eyewitness said. “Those on the queue outside the ATM room were badly wounded.”

In what could be described as a brutal case of jungle justice, two men were immediately accused of being members of the Boko Haram sect who threw the bomb and they were immediately lynched to death by an angry mob. Two motor cycles were also burnt.

Eyewitness maintained that most of those queued up at the ATM were salary earners who were there to withdraw their October salaries.

“The ATM machine and the bank’s building were not affected by the blast,” the eyewitness said.
