The tension over the presidential elections slated for 28th March in Nigeria continues to rise days to the election as Aisha Buhari, the wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, and Oludolapo Osinbajo, wife of Buhari's running mate in the elections, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, were on Monday attacked in Kwara State by suspected thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The duo had visited the state to canvass support for their husbands' political ambition in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The attack led to the destruction of over 10 vehicles in the campaign train of the APC, according to the state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani, at a late night press conference in Ilorin.

It was learnt that apart from the Buhari and Osinbajo's wives, the convoy also had the Kwara First Lady, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, and the wife of the immediate past governor of Kwara State, Barrister Oluwatoyin Saraki.

"A worrisome development took place today, 16th March, 2015 during the visit of Hajia Aishat Buhari, the wife of the APC presidential candidate as her convoy was attacked at the Film House along Emir’s road, Ilorin. About ten vehicles were vandalised," Fulani said.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Salihu Garba confirmed the incident and said his men were combing the town for the suspects.
