The Lagos State Police Command has beefed up security in markets, churches and other crowded locations in the state ahead of next week’s Christmas Day celebrations, Huhuonline.com can report.

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide disclosed this on Friday, saying the force is prepared to confront any security situation within the state throughout the festive season. She said adequate security arrangements have been made in strategic areas of the state till New Year celebrations are over.

The command announced that special security strategies have been evolved to secure public places, including worship centres, markets, departmental stores, parks, gardens and event venues during the period.

“Tight security is in place, as well as intensified motorised patrols, while undercover operatives have been deployed to strategic places all over the state,” Braide said.

She added that the command is in liaising with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to ensure that residents of the state enjoy a blissful Yuletide without hitches. She said the roads would be also be free of traffic throughout the period.

“The ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in the state has eased the job of the Police since it had helped to reduce crime and accidents in the state by over 90 per cent,” she said.

“This is because the command has witnessed a drastic drop in robbery cases. Kidnappings, too, have been reduced as a result of the ban, because after abduction, the victims are usually moved around on okada. Most of the places where they keep their victims are not motorable and are far from the metropolis.”

Braide urged members of the public to be very conscious during this period and report any suspicious movements in their areas to the Police.
