Amid wide condemnation over of the reported N8.6 billion earmarked as the wardrobe allowance for both senators and members of the House of Representatives, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday announced that the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) would begin a downward review of the salaries and allowances of federal lawmakers.

The National Assembly had faced serious criticisms while some activists had begun mobilisation for a protest in Lagos and Abuja to demand for a cut.

Reacting through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Saraki gave the true figure of wardrobe allowance as N506, 600 per senator adding that the head of RMAFC was in his office on Wednesday to clarify the controversies regarding the issue.

He said the RMAFC would soon publish the allowances of lawmakers at the National Assembly.

"Fixing of renumeration of political office holders is the sole responsibility of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

"With the current challenges we are facing as a nation, RMFAC will be reviewing allowances to reflect the current economic trend," Saraki said.

"I have just being informed that RMFAC will be publishing details of allowances on their website.

"I have asked them to do so in a matter of days and we should all follow up to keep them on their toes."
