ASCSN Shuts Unity Colleges Nationwide, Orders Education Ministry Offices Closed

Tension is escalating in Nigeria’s education sector as the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has ordered the immediate shutdown of all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.

In a dramatic escalation of its battle with the Federal Government, the union directed that students must not resume for the new academic session until further notice.

But the confrontation does not stop at the schools.

ASCSN has also ordered the closure of offices of the Federal Ministry of Education from September 14, 2026, signalling a major showdown over the government’s controversial plan to concession Federal Unity Colleges.

The directive was contained in a statement dated September 11 and signed by the ASCSN Chairman, Comrade Samson Chigozie Ngadi.

The union instructed all unit chairmen in Federal Unity Colleges across the country to ensure strict compliance, warning members to stand firm despite what it described as threats and intimidation.

According to ASCSN, the action followed an earlier congress where members resolved to demand the immediate reversal of the proposed concession of the unity schools.

The union also took direct aim at Education Minister Tunji Alausa, declaring that intimidation would not force its members to abandon their position.

ASCSN ordered that all affected schools and Federal Ministry of Education offices remain shut from September 14 until further notice.

The development threatens to deepen the growing confrontation between the government and the senior civil servants’ union, with ASCSN insisting that the proposed concession must be scrapped.

For now, the message from the union is unmistakable: the schools stay shut, ministry offices stay closed, and the battle over the future of Nigeria’s Federal Unity Colleges is far from over.
