Reports

Seven men believed to have been involved in the 1st February 2014 murder of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Auwal Adam, have been paraded by the State Security Service (SSS).

Albani, his wife and his son were killed at Gwagwaja in Zaria, Kaduna State during their return from Markaz Salafiyya Centre in Tudun Wada area of the city, where they had gone to preach.

Spokesperson of the SSS, Ms. Marilyn Ogar said the suspects — Yakub Abdullahi, 42; Ibrahim Shuaibu, 22; Bilyaminu Usman, 22; Yasir Ibrahim Salihu, 35; Sahabi Ismail, 27; Umar Farouk Ismail, 35; and Musa Abubakar, 54 — all confessed toparticipated in activities of the Boko Haram Islamist sect at different periods between 2009 and 2012. She added that the suspects were among terrorists operating in the Kaduna-Niger axis.

An eight suspect, whom the SSS simply identified as Kabiru, was killed while attempting to snatch a weapon from one of the officers who arrested the gang.

It is alleged the paraded suspects murdered Sheikh Albani for what leaders of the sect branded his pro western disposition to the propagation of Islam.

Among the suspects was Yasir Ibrahim Salihu, a graduate of English Literature from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who worked as Head of Records and Billing Department at Horizon Medical Centre in Wuse, Abuja as at the time of his arrest.

Weapons recovered from the suspects, whom Ogar said would be charged to court once ongoing investigations are rounded off, are Ak 47 rifles.
