Abdullahi Mairuwa, the chief driver of Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Al-Makura has been assassinated, the state Police command has confirmed.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident in the state capital, Lafia on Saturday.

Numan said Mairuwa was travelling with his wife from Lafia to Keana Local Government Area on Saturday morning when they were attacked by some gunmen at Tudun Adabu village in Obi Local Government Area of the state.

“The scene indicated that Mairuwa’s killers shot him at close range in the presence of his wife before escaping through a bush path,” Numan said.

The Police said detectives have been deployed to investigate the killing.

Mairuwa's wife said the gun men had told her not to panic because they had only been sent to kill her husband, a source close to the family told the Police.

Numan said the remains of the chief driver  has been taken to Keana for burial according to Islamic rites.

No official comments have been made by Mairuwa's boss, Al-Makura nor his director of press, Yakubu Lamai.
